ANI is a Nigerian not-for-profit organisation focussed on the sustainable management of protected areas with outstanding biodiversity value in partnership with local communities and government. We do this through ranger-led law enforcement, community engagement and development delivered through long term management and partnership agreements.
We believe protected areas can be engines for development of local communities and the country. We aim to establish enabling conditions for private sector investment to sustain protection of landscapes reducing the dependency of protected areas on philanthropy and government spending.

In Nigeria we currently work in two landscapes: Gashaka Gumti National Park and the Okomu Elephant Landscape. We also focus on combatting the illegal trade in wildlife. n wildlife.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
THE CO-MANAGEMENT MODEL
Co-management with the government allows us to do what we need to do, but keeps the government involved in key management decisions
REWILDING
Bring wildlife and biodiversity back to the areas where it has been lost restoring the ecological integrity of landscapes.
EFFECTIVE PROTECTION REQUIRES COMMUNITIES
Community rangers in partnership with local communities create secure protected areas
PROTECTED AREAS AS ENGINES FOR DEVELOPMENT
Conservation can be used to drive sustainable economic development that benefits both people and nature. It is essential for local people to derive tangible benefits from the effective management of protected areas.
